Cabane en construction

Title
Cabane en construction
Spatial Coverage
Apitipi (Abitibi)
Description
A man poses with the cabin he is building. A great deal of strength and patience were required to peel the bark from the trunks. The Apitipiwinnik call this process "PAKONIK8E."

Cabins like this one served as summer bases. Since the Apitipiwinnik have adopted a more sedentary lifestyle, they are used more as chalets or retreats. For many families, they represent a place of renewal, where ancestral practices are passed down.
