Mission
Why Nipakanatik?
The cultural organization Minwashin gave itself the mission of gathering, preserving and sharing archives related to the Anishinabeg in a manner that would restore the memory of our ancestors and revitalize our culture. That's why they created the Nipakanatik digital library.
In Anishinabe language, « Nipakanatik » refers to the structure of a wigwam, more specifically to the set of poles that need to be assembled before a canvas is stretched over them. It represents the foundation of what served as our shelter for telling stories and passing on knowledge.
Nipakanatik is the largest virtual collection of archives on the Anishinabeg. It shelters our culture to enable transmission of knowledge between generations, wherever we are, from a cellphone or a computer.

6 themes covered
Just as the structure of a wigwam is made up of different poles, Nipakanatik covers 6 themes that represent the essential elements of our culture. Each of theses themes constitutes an aspect that should be understood and effectively passed on to the youth.
